The three rock massifs, which are now incorporated in the foundations of the medieval monastery complex, featured most prominently in the layout of the sanctuaryduring the pre-Hellenistic and Hellenistic periods / 6th-1st century BC/. The pair of rocks built into its central part formed the nucleus. Of special interest is the bigger rock to the north, more than 2m high, with steep narrow steps hewn into the rocks and winding like a spiral. In their natural form from the two rocks were probably standing close to one another, forming a narrow passage. It can be assumed that the rock fragment with hewn facade, whose secondary use in the later building can be seen, was plased on top at that time, and through a majestic natural arc helping to form the solemn and ceremonious to the world beyond. |
